Moving your car might seem last on your list because you don’t have to pack anything up and the mover just picks it up, but there is important preparation to move or store your car. First and foremost wash your car before it is moved so when you pick it up any body damage is easily seen. Thoroughly cleaning the inside and taking anything out that could shift and damage your interior during shipment.
A good idea before storage or shipment is to have a mechanic take a once over. That way if something is wrong when you get it you will know it was damaged in transit. Also many automobile-shipping companies will ask if anything leaks from your car before they move it, so it will not leak on another car. Be sure to check in with your moving company about and rules they have, such as how much gas should be in the car. Most companies like only a quarter tank, because it dramatically changes the weight on your car. Be sure to tell the mover if there are any quirks to your car starting, putting it in reverse, putting it in four-wheel drive, or anything you think your be helpful to know. Just remember the more they know about your car, the better they can take care of it.
