Being an owner of a moving company, I would love for a potential customer to do an onsite visit to our warehouses in Aspen and Eagle, Colorado. The client could see how their goods are being stored and who they are dealing with. This is not always possible. Here are some tips that we suggest when selecting a moving and storage company. Due diligence when selecting a mover is time well spent.
- Search online. This will bring up several moving companies and this is where it gets tricky. Many moving companies have paid to have their name come up on the top of the search engine list but they don’t have an actual office in the area. You want your moving company to have an actual warehouse facility with moving trucks.
- The old fashion way to find a moving company is to go to the yellow pages.
- Review Sites like Yelp, Facebook, the company’s website, the Company’s blog.
- Check Better Business Bureau rating.
- Do they have a moving license? Have them show you that license.
- Request a certificate of insurance.
- Ask the company how their movers are hired and trained? How long have they worked for the company?
- Do they background check their employees?
- Do they have their movers drug tested?
- Are they temporary or full time movers?
- Does the moving company offer additional valuation on a move?
- Federal Motor Carriers Safety Association (FMCSA) rules require an onsite, written estimate if your residence is within fifty miles of the mover’s warehouse. This will give you a more accurate estimate of your moving costs. In addition, you get to meet the estimator from the moving company face to face.
