When asking Bill of one of his more memorable moments on the job as a mover, his face lit up as the following story unfolded. A moving client, who was an avid hunter, was moving from Snowmass, CO to Bozeman, MT. The client hunted pheasants, ducks, woodcocks, and other “upland” birds many of which were stuffed and mounted. Each of the mounted heads was going to be crated separately to make certain for a safe arrival in Bozeman. When Columbine arrived at the house, the boys set up a crate making station in the garage and put the trophies in the driveway.
About halfway through the day, Columbine’s van foreman called Bill to report a “big problem”. Bill inquired about the “big problem”, that he was certain he could fix, but the foreman informed Bill that this problem was an act of nature. A fox had run out of the woods and attacked one of the stuffed mounted trophies that were waiting to be crated. The fox had bit into the pheasant with a flurry of feathers and dragged it into the woods. Although the client was upset about his mount, he understood it was an act of nature and his move went on without any further problems. Lesson learned, from now on all crating of trophies and other mounts is done inside, so no wildlife will get any ideas.
