Moving is a stressful time and particularly at loading time. To help the level of stress be at a minimum here are a few suggestions. First & foremost have the driveway plowed and have access to salt for icy patches if you are moving during the winter months. Clear your driveway and sidewalks of any toys, hoses, or anything that may be in the way of the loaders so they can safely move your furniture and boxes onto the truck.
If you have pets, have them put in a secure area and if you have young children have they stay at someone else’s home if possible. If you are not able to be at the residence on moving day, have someone who knows what you want moved so if there are any questions the driver asks, your representative can answer. Before the driver starts loading your shipment, he will want you or your representative to walk through the whole house. The driver will tag each item with an inventory tag and add this to the inventory sheet. He will do this for all your goods. This is a good time to show the driver what you are going to take yourself. It is best to have those items you are taking personally all in one area. Now the loaders begin their work loading your goods onto the truck. Depending upon the number of items to stack in the truck this could take from a couple of hours to all day.
Once all the items are on the truck, the driver will do one last walk through where the driver and you will look in all the closets and corners to make sure all has been loaded. Make sure to check the garage and crawl space. Once the final walk through has been completed your driver will ask for a signature on the inventory. Make sure the driver has all your correct contact information and correct delivery address. He will be contacting you once he knows his schedule to delivery of your goods. If you have not prepaid your shipment to your Allied Van Lines agency, make sure you know what type of payment will be acceptable upon arrival at destination. Most agencies with Allied Van Lines, will not accept a personal check at destination. An acceptable payment at destination for an intrastate move is a certified check.
